Microderm is a quick and non-invasive procedure for improving skin tone and texture. This is a controlled mechanical peeling which exfoliates the outermost layer of the epidermis. It is most frequently applied to the face and neck, but can be used for any part of the body.
The procedure is administered by using diamond hypoallergenic discs. The intensity of the procedure is determined by the quality (fineness) of the head, the vacuum intensity, and the pressure exerted by the therapist to control the level of penetration into the skin, or the repeated treatment of a particular area of the damaged skin to enhance its effect.
The purpose of the procedure is to remove, i.e. to peel off, the stratum corneum. The uttermost layer of the epidermis is made up of 25 to 30 layers of dead cells which are responsible for the vital barrier function of the skin. It allows only very small molecules to penetrate into the epidermis and dermis. When applying creams and lotions, only a small portion thereof penetrates through that layer. That is why it is so important to have these layers restored in order to maintain a healthy skin. The more proper these dead cells are peeled off, the more powerful is the effect of the used cosmetics.
During the procedure the dead cells are peeled off without feeling any pain or discomfort, resulting in:
– cellular regeneration;
– acceleration of the physiological process of skin refreshment;
– enhancement of collagen and elastin production;
The result of the Microderm treatment is an improved skin tone and texture, even complexion, and healthier and radiant skin. It is recommended to have a course of five procedures at intervals of seven to ten days.
